A Life-Changing Message
The assembly is told largely by Todd’s older brother, Keith, who personally recounts the many decisions his brother made that ultimately ended his life. Choice by choice, the message focuses far beyond one night of drinking gone wrong, but more importantly, on the seemingly innocents steps Todd took that led him into the grave all too early. Starting from his Freshman year, Keith recounts the small steps Todd took off the “narrow” road and how each small step lead to another, and finally, by his senior year, Todd was on the “highway of destruction” and dead at just 18.
The assembly and story is based off the scripture, Matthew 7:13-14, which illustrates the two roads students are forced to choose between every day, the narrow road or the wide road: “The highway to destruction is wide, and the road that leads to it is wide for the many who choose this way. But the gateway to life is small, and the narrow road that leads to it is hard, but only a few ever choose this way.”
